This is an oil I created for Spiralheart Convergence 2025, an online Reclaiming witch camp. The oil is inspired by the 2025 Convergence theme, Flowers of Resistance.
This oil uses plant allies that I associate with resilience and/or with queer identity. For more information about the magic of these plants, see my previous post [here].
Resilience Oil can be used to dress candles and anoint ritual items, or applied topically to the skin for personal magics. Topical use should be safe for most people and should not interfere with most medications. Always do an allergy patch test before using a topical oil.
Recipe:
Combine 1 part dried violet flowers, 1 part dried rose flowers, 1 part dried dandelion flowers, and 3 rose thorns in a neutral carrier oil. For an optional scent, add a few drops of lavender essential oil. Store in an opaque bottle in a cool, dark place.
Tip: For a longer shelf-life, add a teaspoon of Vitamin E oil to the bottle. (Note that many Vitamin E oils are made with wheat. If you have Celiac Disease, make sure to use an oil marked gluten-free.)
Accessibility Adjustments
If you are allergic to one of the plants mentioned, do not include it in the oil. You can replace it with a plant with similar magical uses, or just leave it out.
If mixing your own magical oils isn’t possible for you, consider buying a tincture or liquid extract of each plant for use in ritual. Herb Pharm is an affordable, good-quality brand that offers both alcohol-based and alcohol-free formulas. You can combine all three tinctures in one bottle, or mix and match depending on your ritual needs.
Rose water and violet water are used as cosmetics and can be purchased for just a few dollars.
Dandelion root tea is a popular health drink and is sold at most grocery stores.
